the story

Jorge Mendez started as a picker in farms in the San Pedro Necta in Huehuetenango. He saved money with his wife and bought a small piece of land down by the PanAmerican highway. Jorge began to learn the value of coffee: how to buy and sell, quality metrics, and the techniques of growing quality coffee. He sold this property, moved back up the mountain, and bought two small parcels - the current home of El Apiario. Jorge discovered how to grow coffees at this high altitude and continued to work on quality. El Apiario now produces not only high-scoring coffee but also delicious coffee blossom honey.
