The Story

The Yellow Bourbon varietal is a natural cross between Amarelo de Botacuto, labeled a Typica variant with yellow fruit, and Red Bourbon, originated by botanists’ careful selections in wild Yemeni coffee groves. Propagated in controlled elds, the relatively humble stock grew into a remarkable varietal that was named after its nursery – Bourbon Island – and introduced to South America. There, a yellow mutant with a unique avor pro le expressed itself and was isolated, expanded, and named for its color. This yellow bourbon lot comes to us courtesy of 10 farmers from outside the village of Rio Negro, located in the municipality of Iquira, Huila.
